Custom mosaic jewelry box made with family jewelry and favorite flowers — yellow tulips and blue hydrangea. A wooden box was finished with clear polyurethane. I then made a design sketch of yellow tulips and blue hydrangea that incorporates some jewelry — earrings, pins and pearls — that has a sentimental value to the client. Blue and yellow stained glass mosaic is hand cut and grouted dark charcoal. Some jewelry pieces are set into the grout, and some are mounted on the mosaic.
Teal and Amber Custom Mosaic Picture Frame
This is a custom 4×6 mosaic picture frame for someone’s grandson. The client wanted to match some items on her desk — teal pencil holder and red-amber Tiffany lamp. So the color combo was established: dark teal, amber, cream, red, and Van Gogh textured stained glass.
The mosaic was made on a recycled wooden frame using stained glass scrap, with emphasis on teal and a few touches of deep red glass. A dark charcoal grout complements hand-cut stained glass pieces.
Upcycled Nautical Trinket Box
I found this beautiful wooden box in a thrift shop and gave it a little touch of mosaic. This box has a distressed wood appearance, man-made marks to look old and worn out, and decorative touches of metal corners. Its hinges allow 180 degree opening. I cleaned this box up and added a light coat of varnish to brighten up and give fresh look.
…and created a nautical abstract mosaic design — a little orange sailboat surrounded by blue-green ocean waves. Each glass piece is hand cut and glued to glass-base box cover, grouted light grout and sealed.
